Brigitte Mulholland is delighted to announce Love Among the Ruins, a group exhibition curated by George Newall. On view from 13 June to 25 July, the show brings nine contemporary artists into conversation with works by Edward Burne-Jones. The presentation explores the re-emergence of medieval symbolism and mythic themes within contemporary art, and includes work by Theodora Allen, Raphaëlle Bertran, Julie Curtiss, Gregory Kalliche, Keelin Montzingo, Danielle Orchard, Simon Pasieka, David Rappeneau, and Nora Sturges, alongside significant historical works by Burne-Jones.
Edward Burne-Jones (1833-1898) was an English painter associated with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. The Pre-Raphaelite were a group of painters, poets, and art critics founded in 1848. The group sought a return to the abundant detail and complex compositions of Quattrocento Italian art. The exhibition borrows its title from a painting by Burne-Jones; itself a reference to a poem by Robert Browning.
